( after a long night of restless feelings being shared between the two, adam was left with a deep sense of accomplishment in himself. it was a silly thing to be proud of โ telling your girlfriend that you loved her, but to him who had so little to look forward to, to fight for before meeting her, it was a huge step in the right direction. as he promised maria, he was driving his shitty car as fast as it could go towards a 24/7 breakfast diner. he had it all planned out in his mindโ
he would arrive to his place with a bottle of wine as promised, the food, and they would spend greeting the day just basking in each other's affections and cuddling up with their cat. if he had been asked ages ago if this was the future he envisioned, he would have laughed and said those types of moments were for cheesy couples in terrible romcom films but now? he was genuinely excited about such a peaceful moment between two people who had a rough life.
unfortunately fate had different plans in mind for adam. unbeknownst to him the former cop who had hired him to stalk a certain doctor had accidentally brought adam into jigsaw's attention. the former cop thought the doctor was jigsaw, and jigsaw was angered at the doctor and his lack of intimate care towards him and when he discovered his cheating ways through adam, the pieces all aligned for the serial torturer to make a new game involving the two.
at some point or another between stepping out of his car and getting the food, a plan was set into motion to capture adam. he wasn't usually this careless given his line of work but given the time of day, how pitch dark it was outside, and how he was buzzing with happiness from finally establishing his relationship with maria properlyโ well he wasn't as cautious as he normally would be.

the game was suppose to last only 24 hours with the objective being that adam had to prove he had the will to live, that he wasn't simply watching others in the shadow live out their lives [even if it was just his line of work]. while things did end up lasting only a day before hitting a turning point, there was something a little bit more complex about the way things turned out. first off the key given to him that would have led to his escape from the chain on his ankle had been flushed down the drain of the bathtub he woke up in. secondly he had screwed up by pissing off jigsaw, leaving him to rot in the dark bathroom he was captured in. while he had an extreme drive to live now because of maria, he had only managed to break his foot free, but he was still trapped in that room.
in the month he was officially missing he did everything he could to keep up his strength, resorting to more disgusting measures to avoid starving to death. he woke up every day, remembering the last few words he told maria, the smell of her hair, her smile, how she felt on his lips, against him and all the memories he could cherish. they were the only light he had in the darkness of that room.
eventually though when amanda came in to set him free of his misery [to kill him], he found the will to attack her and escape as quickly as he could, trying his best to drown out the never ending pain he felt. it took him a very long time to escape that entire building โ but eventually he made his way out towards the outside world and nearly broke down in tears over his freedom.

how he eventually made it back to his apartment was a mystery to both himself and the random strangers who saw him waddling about, a bloody, broken mess. by the time he finally made it to the front door of his apartment he had fallen to the floor and was a writhing mess, barely being able to scrape his finger against the door. he tried his best to call out for maria, but nothing came from his voice.
eventually he closed his eyes and passed out completely. )
